Wheeler's KID PK Photos
The Instagram account @pk_official_gallery contacted me to let me know they had been sharing one of my photos. The picture in question was a PK on the back of a blue dumpster truck that I took while driving on Route 17 South.
When I captured the photo, I was driving in the same direction as the truck and spotted the PK from a few car lengths back. Reaching for my camera, I put my foot down on the gas and managed to catch up just in time to snap a photo of the dumpster truck passing the Bing.
Hell yeah!!! One of the luckiest shots of my life.
I never set out to intentionally look for KID PK, but in my quest to find the hidden beauty on the Passaic River for my Weird NJ special issue, I naturally came upon their work often. Every time I discovered a new KID PK, it was a signpost that I was traveling the right path.
After Nightshade on the Passaic, I did another expedition where I kept a speedboat in the water at Rapp's Boatyard in Kearny for the 2012/2013 boating seasons to write a book about the Passaic River. Every day for two years I would go out on the boatyard docks and look out over the water at the KID PK tags on the WR Drawbridge and know that life was good.
During my time on and around the river, I amassed an insane amount of KID PK photographs, mostly of the same tags over and over from different angles. When @pk_official_gallery contacted me recently about the Satin Dolls dumpster photo, it inspired me to take a look through my entire photo collection to see how many KID PK I could find. All told, I found over 500 images featuring the notorious graffiti writers. On this page you will find 100 of my favorites.
This collection of photographs featuring KID PK is by no means the definitive look at their work. The photos below are a selection from the times that I crossed paths with their writing. There are so many spots that I have never seen in person, much less photographed, but I always have my eyes peeled and my camera ready for a fresh KID PK.
